Before opening our in home childcare program, I was a newly graduated college student with a degree in Mathematics and a five month old child. My husband, a Physical Education teacher, was our steady support during my final semester of college. While securing employment in finance or science came easily, finding reliable infant childcare did not. At the time, Kansas was experiencing a significant childcare shortage, particularly for infants, something I had not fully realized until I began my search.
I toured numerous in home programs and childcare centers, only to discover that most infant waitlists extended one to two years beyond 2022. With my background in childcare and education throughout high school and college, my husband jokingly suggested that I open an in home program myself. At first, I dismissed the idea entirely. However, after a month of in depth research, including reviewing regulations, contacting licensing agencies, and making countless phone calls and inquiries, I decided to move forward and license our home as an in home childcare program.
The licensing process for our newly renovated home was demanding, particularly while working within a tight budget. Purchasing baby gates, child safety locks, and required materials on a single income required careful planning and creativity. Coordinating inspections with KDHE and the fire marshal, developing a comprehensive business plan, and navigating regulatory requirements while caring for a newborn was challenging. Throughout this process, my family’s support was invaluable.
Today, my husband and I work together to operate a thriving, academically focused early learning program. Over the past three years, we have intentionally developed a strong curriculum and a clear vision centered on how children learn best. Our goal is to deliver academic content in a way that is engaging, joyful, and developmentally appropriate, allowing children to build confidence while learning through exploration and play.
We strive to create a fully immersive learning experience, beginning the moment children enter our building and continuing through every transition in their day. We recognize that children’s minds are constantly active, and our program is designed to support their social, physical, and sensory development alongside academic growth.
Through hands on STEM projects, demonstrations, and interactive learning experiences, we help children understand how science, technology, engineering, and mathematics connect to the world around them. Our mission is to foster curiosity, problem solving skills, and a lifelong love of learning, starting from the earliest years.

As parents ourselves, we understand the importance of staying informed throughout the day. I know personally how difficult it is to go through the day without knowing how my daughter is doing, and clear communication is something we value deeply.
Families receive daily updates through the Brightwheel application, where providers document key information as they interact with the children. This includes diaper changes, feedings, and meals, along with a summary of daily activities and any notable changes.
Our goal is to ensure parents feel informed and connected to their child’s day. Important announcements will be shared through Brightwheel and sent alongside billing statements when applicable.

Nutritious meals are prepared and cooked on site each day, including breakfast, a morning snack, lunch, and an afternoon snack. Weekly menus are available through Brightwheel for families to review.
We kindly ask that families inform us of any anticipated absences before the start of the week. Providing advance notice allows us to plan food preparation accordingly and helps reduce food waste whenever possible.

“We are thrilled to have our son attend this daycare. Sydney and Braden, both highly educated professionals in childhood development, have been instrumental in my child’s holistic development since he started attending. I can confidently say that he will have a wonderful day with his friends and receive the support he needs to grow and thrive.”- Kenzie A
“We have absolutely loved having our son attend O’Barto’s. As a first time mom, putting your child in daycare is never an easy decision. It was so important to find a place that would feel like home and providers that truly care about and love our child. It was also so important to us to have an educational aspect of daycare as we have an incredibly smart little guy who needs the mental stimulation to thrive. They focus on learning through play and seeing him come home and tell us about all the new things he learns every day has been incredible. O’Barto’s has offered a nurturing, fun, and educational environment for our son to grow and learn. He loves his providers and all of his friends and is genuinely excited to go there every day. We couldn’t recommend them more!”- Lauren M
“We absolutely love O’Barto’s Childcare. Our son is excited to go to school every morning and comes home happy every day. He learns so much and has such great friends. We truly trust Braydon and Sydney with our child, which brings such peace of mind!”-Kari K
“I couldn't recommend O'Bartos more! My daughter has been cared for by Braydon and Sydney for a little over 2 years ever since she was 1.5 years old. My daughter has flourised in their care. It all began with her learning how to sign (which was a total blessing for us parents! Game changer). From there it was like dominos! She learned and grew so much! It was amazing! Their beautiful blend of love and education is what I find most valuable as a parent. They have become an extension of our family and I know without a doubt that my child will be more than well taken care of. The kids form close bonds with each other, they get to do a wide variety of activities that are fun but help teach them in a multitude of ways. From art projects, to physical exercise, to educational play and more. They are challenged in ways that really encourage growth. And they are encouraged to be themselves. I've never had a single issue to date and any question or potential concern is always addressed quickly and efficiently. Communication is excellent. We heavily use the Brightwheel app so I always know what is going on through the day and get plenty of photos and videos which puts my mama heart at rest. Truly, if you want an environment that is safe, nurturing and where your child will learn and grow and be prepared for school then look no further. You'll want to add O'Bartos to your family.”-Kaite F
“Our daughter has been with OBartos since 2023 when she started at 12 months old. As transplants to the area, the thought of leaving our first baby with just anyone was tough but Sydney and Brayden have been invaluable to us! They really love what they do and treat each kiddo like their own. Since day 1 we have been able to watch our daughter grow and learn in an incredibly stimulating environment that encourages and expands her knowledge daily. At almost 3 years old, she comes home daily speaking highly of her friends and her teachers and rarely has a less than exceptional day. They learn a ton, and play even harder! Absolutely recommend!”-Kaylnn R
“We have been so happy at O'Bartos Childcare facility! They have been wonderful at teaching the kids good lessons and really focus on the attention to the small group sizes. We really enjoy having our daughter be there and continue to thrive!”-Kayla B
Abuse in all forms is unacceptable and prohibited in my facility. Training is provided to recognize signs of abuse, and I will document any suspected incidents. As a mandated reporter, I am required by law to report any suspicions of neglect or abuse.
If a child is injured, the provider will assess the situation, provide first aid, and contact the parent for stable injuries that need medical attention. For life-threatening injuries, first aid will be given, 911 will be called, and parents will be notified. A provider will accompany the child to the hospital if an ambulance is needed.
Biting Policy:
Biting can occur among young children, often due to reasons like experimentation, jealousy, or frustration. When a biting incident happens, I act quickly to address the situation. I remove the child who bit, help the bitten child, and explain that "biting hurts."
Procedure for Notifying Parents:
Parents of the bitten child will be informed with details and a photo of the bite mark, though we cannot identify the child who bit due to privacy concerns. We will also notify the parents of the biting child without sharing the photo. A plan will be created to address the behavior. If biting continues, we may have to terminate enrollment for safety. Monitoring will be increased during free play, and if there’s no improvement, a different daycare may be suggested.
We are a private childcare business, and vaccinations are mandatory. We do not accept delays or waivers. Please send us your child's immunization records after each doctor's appointment where they receive vaccinations. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) conducts unexpected inspections, so we need to keep our records up-to-date. We recommend scheduling immunizations at the end of the day since children cannot return to daycare the same day due to potential reactions. This also applies to blood tests and allergy appointments. We appreciate your cooperation!
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in several areas, including employment, transportation, public accommodations, communications, and access to state and local government programs and services.
Guidelines for Releasing Children: I will only release your child to their parent or legal guardian. If someone else needs to pick them up, please send a message on Brightwheel with their name from the pre-authorized list. More than simply informing me at drop-off is required.
Each authorized person must provide their contact information, address, vehicle ID, and a photocopy of a government-issued ID (such as a driver's license). I will verify their ID before release. Please explain this policy to anyone picking up your child; it is for their safety.
If your family is experiencing a divorce or any legal changes affecting custody, please inform me immediately and provide any necessary legal documents indicating who cannot pick up your child.
All family-related information will be kept confidential except as required by law or with written consent. Caregivers and teachers must not share personal details about children and families with unauthorized individuals. Confidential information should only be accessed by staff who need it for services and should not be discussed in front of others in the facility.
O’Barto’s Childcare Rules:
Prohibited behaviors include: - Hitting, pinching, biting, pushing, hair-pulling, and breaking things.
- Running, jumping, wrestling, or climbing on furniture indoors.
- Picking up babies or toddlers, or leaving the house/yard without an adult.
- Climbing trees or being in the front yard/driveway without supervision.
- Name-calling, yelling, foul language, and teasing. Respect is mandatory. Shoes must be removed in the carpet area, and socks are required. Children must wash their hands after coughing or sneezing and before and after meals or outdoor play.
Discipline / Behavior Policy:
I address harmful offenses by removing the child and redirecting their attention while explaining appropriate behaviors, especially to children over two. I take harmful actions seriously and encourage apologies when fitting. If behaviors persist, I may terminate enrollment to ensure all children's safety. Physical punishment by parents, including grabbing, smacking, or hitting, is prohibited on my premises.
To maintain our schedule, visits are limited to parents during pick-up and drop-off. Our no-visitors policy applies to anyone other than parents and guardians since all visitors must pass extensive background checks, which can take months. When we started our daycare, we anticipated family members assisting with field trips and added them to our KDHE affiliates list after approved background checks.
Tips for smooth transitions at Drop-Off and Pick-Up:
Transition times can be challenging depending on the child's age and development. Parents should comfort their child with positive affirmations and avoid showing reluctance, as this may worsen the situation. Establishing a consistent routine helps. The caregiver will manage diapers and necessary supplies during these times.
For Pick-up/Drop-off:
Please do not enter the licensed childcare area. We will meet you at the French doors. This reduces crowding and keeps outside particles out. Use Brightwheel for important updates before drop-off; we'll inform you about meals, diaper changes, and naps throughout the day.
Late Attendance:
If your child will be late, please message me via Brightwheel or email the night before. Late arrivals can disrupt routine. If dropping off after 8:00 AM, ensure your child has had breakfast since we finish serving by then. Thank you! Please schedule appointments near the end of the day. If you need to pick up early, do so before lunch or after a nap, as children cannot return after appointments. Avoid picking them up during nap times for uninterrupted sleep. If picking up early, please do so at least 30 minutes before nap time starts. Thank you!
O’Barto’s Childcare is committed to following the Kansas Act Against Discrimination, which prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status. We strive to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all our staff, the children and families we serve, and our volunteers.
I am completely committed to this for the children. As a parent, I want the best for my children, and I will do everything I can to ensure they receive proper care, education, and experiences. Our handbook has more of our policies.

Once you’ve completed a tour and are interested in enrolling, please follow up with OBarto STEM & Childcare. Enrollment is a mutual decision — both your family and the OBarto Administration must feel confident that it’s the right fit.
Please note that all positions are available on a first-come, first-served basis. We often have multiple families touring for the same opening. To enroll your child at O’Barto’s Childcare LLC, please begin by filling out the enrollment form on our website. Once submitted, we’ll reach out to schedule a tour and share more information about our program.
If both parties agree it’s a great fit following the tour, we’ll create a family portal for you on Brightwheel. A one-time, non-refundable enrollment fee will be added to your account to secure your child’s spot and cover potential damages during their time with us.
From there, our OBarto STEM & Childcare admissions paperwork will be available for digital completion for your convenience.
Before your child’s first day, a 2025 Family Handbook & Contract must be reviewed and signed. In addition, KDHE-required forms—including the Medical Record: Medical History, Medical History Continuation, and Child Health Assessment—must be completed by your child’s physician and uploaded to your Brightwheel portal.
The Emergency Medical Care Release Form, along with acknowledgment of the OBarto STEM & Childcare policies, must also be signed to confirm your understanding and agreement. All required documents must be submitted before care can begin.
We provide a healthy breakfast, morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack each day. If your child has any dietary restrictions or allergies, please let us know so we can make the appropriate accommodations.
Our program is full-time only and designed for consistency. Families may use their spot at will, but we do not offer part-time care due to our individualized curriculum model.
We purchase the Experience Curriculum for each individual student every month to support personalized learning and development. For more details, please visit the Curriculum tab on our website.

At OBarto STEM & Childcare, we believe outdoor play is essential for children’s physical health, emotional well-being, and cognitive development. Weather permitting, children go outside twice daily—once in the morning and once in the afternoon—or for one extended hour in the morning, depending on weather conditions.
We follow KDHE guidelines and adjust outdoor time based on temperature, wind chill, heat index, and air quality:
At OBarto STEM & Childcare, we want to be as transparent as possible. We work so hard to be the very best for our community.

At OBarto STEM & Childcare, we have a strict illness policy. Children can come back 24 hours after symptoms have cleared with a doctor's note. Then 48 hours without a doctor's note. Our handbook provides an in-depth look at this policy. This helps all parties stay healthy and supports the teachers' well-being.
